Roles

Manufacturing Engineer

an engineer who designs and improves the processes, routings and tooling a plant uses to make products efficiently and to specification

Your job, minus the screen work

You turn a design into a process that makes good parts at the right cost: routings, instructions, fixtures, standards and first articles. Then you spend hours keeping the same data straight in three or four systems.

Where your week goes

  1. Copying title block data into a new part record, field by field
  2. Releasing in the vault, then updating the ERP, the folder and the email lists by hand
  3. Searching open jobs and POs for work at the old revision after every change
  4. Walking the floor to collect superseded prints
  5. Running the CAD-to-ERP BOM comparison when there is time
  6. Answering "which revision is current?" all week

What an agent takes over

Part records

Builds new part records from the title block, following your field rules.

Duplicate hints

Flags parts that look like ones you already have.

Drawing release

Publishes released drawings to the ERP and controlled folder and tells every group.

Old revision hunt

Lists open jobs, POs, stock and paper copies still at the old revision.

Weekly reconciliation

Checks the vault and ERP agree and reports only the gaps.

What stays with you

  • Process design: sequence, fixturing, tooling and method

  • Every approval, which the agent mirrors but never signs

  • What happens to a job already cut at the old revision

  • Floor time, and customer talks about specs and deviations

Apps you already juggle

ERP, CAD, PLM or PDM vault, MES, shop-floor terminals, barcode scanners, Excel, SharePoint or OneDrive, Outlook and Teams.

A week, before and after

Before

  • Typing part records and fixing them when purchasing calls
  • One release done four times in four places
  • Chasing old prints across the floor

After

  • Approve proposed part records with the drawing beside them
  • Release once in the vault and get a report back
  • Decide dispositions from a list already built
  • Spend recovered hours on improvements and the floor
