Roles

Buyer

a purchasing professional who sources materials and services for a manufacturing plant, requesting quotes and negotiating with suppliers

Your job, minus the screen work

You commit the company's money to suppliers: the right price, from an approved supplier, in time for the need date. In a smaller plant you might be buyer, planner and expediter before lunch. Most of the day goes to the paper around the decision.

Where your week goes

  • Emailing requesters about missing account codes
  • Looking up approvers and pasting requests into Teams
  • Building each RFQ by hand: find the drawing, check the revision, attach, repeat
  • Saving supplier replies from the inbox into folders
  • Retyping prices, units and lead times from PDFs into the bid tab
  • Converting cases to pieces and origin freight to delivered
0 of 6 tasks are screen work

What an agent takes over

Requisition check

confirms each requisition is complete and flags possible split purchases.

Approval routing

sends it to the right approver by amount, category and budget, and chases when it stalls.

RFQ packages

assembles drawings and specs and sends them to approved suppliers by portal or email.

Quote extraction

reads every reply, whatever the format, into clean fields and asks suppliers for anything missing.

Bid tab

converts units, adds freight and duty, and ranks suppliers by landed cost and lead time.

Savings log

updates at every award with prior and awarded price.
