Turn Sunroom Sketches into CAD Drawings

LaunchAI converts sunroom, patio cover and enclosure sketches into CAD drawings. Create plans, elevations and sections from dealer measures and specifications. The drawing is built from the supplied measurements, notes and specifications. Unclear details are flagged for your team to review.

For order desks, drafters and engineering coordinators at sunroom, patio cover, pergola and screen enclosure manufacturers and dealers

Monday, 7:15. Twelve rooms sold over the weekend, none of them drawn.

The home-show weekend paid off and now it's your problem. A dealer's measure sheet with a box for the room, "14 x 16 off slider", and a wall height written next to the soffit with a question mark. A phone photo of the back of the house with the gutter, the dryer vent and the hose bib circled. A screen-enclosure job from the pool builder: a survey with the pool drawn in, "cage, mansard, 2 doors" in the margin, and nothing about the wind zone. A pergola customer who wants it freestanding now, per a text.

So you draw them. Wall length, projection, attach height under the soffit or on top of the fascia. Pick the pitch so the front wall still clears a door. Knee wall or full glass, how many panels, where the door goes, which way it swings. Roof panel thickness for the snow load, beam and post spacing for the wind speed, footers for the slab you hope is there. Then the permit set, then the factory order, every dimension typed a second time.

It's careful work, and the season is short. A room that's drawn with the wrong attach height is a front wall that comes out six inches too short, a door that doesn't fit, and a crew standing in a backyard with a truck of panels that have to go back.

What the job looks like today

  1. Read the sheet

Figure out what was measured to the soffit, the fascia, or the posts.

  2. Draw the room

Plan, elevations and sections, by hand, for every job.

  3. Engineer it

Pitch, panels, beams, footers for this county's wind and snow.

  4. Type it again

Every dimension into the factory order and the permit forms.

  5. Chase the gaps

Call the dealer about the height, the slab, the door. Wait.

Where it goes wrong

The sheet had every number. One of them was measured to the wrong place.

Rooms and covers are simple boxes. The trouble is where the box meets a house, a slab and a building code.

  • Soffit or fascia?

"9' 4" attach" measured to the bottom of the soffit is a different room than 9' 4" to the top of the fascia. Pick wrong and the front wall loses inches you needed for the door.

  • Pitch eats the front wall

    A 2:12 roof over a 14' projection drops 28". Start at 9' 4" and the front is 7' 0"; start at 8' 10" and the door doesn't fit.

  • The slab nobody checked

The sheet says "existing slab". The crew finds four inches at the edge and no footing. Now it's new footers, a revised plan and a second permit review.

  • Projection to what?

From the house wall or from the edge of the eave? Posts usually sit in from the roof edge, so the cover overhangs past them, and the dealer measured to the posts.

Why it's still manual

Software hasn't fixed this. Here's why.

Manufacturers have dealer portals, design apps and CAD. The measure sheet still comes in as a sketch, and someone still redraws it.

  • Your CAD and quoting software

    Waits for someone to type

AutoCAD, SketchUp and Chief Architect draw a sunroom or a pool cage fast once someone has decided the attach height, pitch, panels and footers. They don't read a dealer's measure sheet or a survey with "cage, mansard" in the margin.

  • Generic AI and OCR models

    Confidently wrong

Generic OCR and chat models read "9'4 ?" as 94, drop the question mark, and turn "2/12" into a date. Ask one to finish the room and it will give you a plausible wind zone. Plausible doesn't pass plan review.

  • Image-to-CAD converters

    Traces lines, not intent

Image-to-CAD converters trace the box the dealer drew. It isn't to scale, it has no heights, and it doesn't know the circled thing on the house is a dryer vent in the way of the ledger.

  • Measuring apps and configurators

    Only if everyone uses them

Sales visualizers put a room on a photo of the house and sell it beautifully. The order desk still needs the attach height, the slab and the door swing, and those come back on paper.

9'4 ? 94 9' 4" attach height, low confidence, sent to the dealer The foot mark and the question mark both carry meaning; a generic reader keeps neither.

How the agent does it

From sketches to CAD drawings and layouts

LaunchAI converts the sketch and its measurements into CAD geometry, applies your drawing standards and prepares the related order information. Missing dimensions and unclear notes are flagged for your team to review.

  2. Applies your rules

Pitch limits, panel widths, door clearances, footer details, county loads.

  3. Draws it

Plan, elevations and permit sheets in your CAD, the way your drafter would.

  4. Fills the order

FAQ

Sunrooms, patio covers & enclosures: questions we hear

Can it read our dealers' measure sheets and photos?

Yes. It reads the sheet, the photos of the house and any survey, scores how sure it is of each value, and keeps track of what was measured to the soffit, the fascia or the posts.

We draw in AutoCAD and order through our own dealer portal. Do we need an integration?

No. LaunchAI agents work through the screen with your logins, on your machines, in the same CAD and portal your order desk uses today.

What happens when the wind zone or the attach height is missing?

It doesn't guess. It fills loads only from your county table, flags anything the sheet doesn't say, and drafts the question to the dealer so the order isn't held for a phone call.

Does it stamp or engineer anything?

No. It prepares the drawings and fills your standard plans and notes. Your engineer or engineering partner still reviews and seals what needs sealing.

Does it handle screen enclosures and pool cages?

Yes. A survey or pool plan with the cage outline, roof style and door notes becomes a dimensioned plan and elevations with beam and post layout from your standards, ready for engineering.

Who approves before the factory cuts anything?

Your drafter or order desk, every time. The agent shows each value with its source and highlights the one it couldn't confirm.
