For vinyl liner manufacturers & pool order desks

Turn Pool Measure Sheets into CAD Drawings

LaunchAI converts pool sketches, A-B measure sheets and dealer notes into CAD liner drawings and patterns. This workflow is for vinyl liner manufacturers: the agent plots the measured geometry, prepares the order and flags uncertain points for your drafter before release.

For order desks, CAD departments and plant managers at vinyl liner and pool manufacturers

April. The measure sheets haven't stopped since Tuesday.

Every dealer opened pools in the same three weeks. They come in as images: faxed, texted, scanned crooked, photographed on a truck seat: a freehand shape, A and B staked, thirty-some numbered points, a couple of diagonals if you're lucky, depths scribbled down the side, and a step drawn as a box with "3 treads?" next to it.

So you open the quote, convert it to an order, and type it in. A and B lengths. Bottom type, E, N, M, L. Deep-end view: G, H, I, J, K. Step type, position, number of treads, corner type. Then you hit save and the portal tells you the order won't route to AutoCAD: missing wall pattern, missing wall thickness, missing floor pattern, missing floor thickness, missing PO. Call the dealer. Leave a message.

When it finally routes, someone in CAD plots it point by point and eyeballs the diagonals. Get one number wrong and it's a liner that wrinkles in the deep end or won't reach the bead receiver: a remake, a truck, and an angry dealer in the middle of the season.

What the job looks like today

  1. Open the quote

Find the dealer's quote, convert it to an order.

  2. Type the sheet

A and B, bottom type, deep-end view, steps, corners: field by field.

  3. Fight the rules

Pattern, thickness, PO missing. Call the dealer, wait.

  4. Plot it in CAD

Point by point, diagonals checked by eye.

  5. Hope it fits

You find out at the pool, two weeks later.

Where it goes wrong

Every remake started as a number someone read wrong

The sheet is usually right. The trouble is in what the sheet doesn't say, and in a 7 that looks like a 1.

  • Tick marks that vanish

8'6" on a blurry image becomes 86 when the foot and inch marks drop out. Typed in a hurry, that's a deep end that's 7 inches off.

  • Diagonals that don't agree

If the A and B tapes to point 14 can't both be true, the shape doesn't close. You find out when the plotted outline has a kink, or when the liner does.

  • The step that changed on the phone

Roman on the sheet, wedding cake on the voicemail, corner step on the follow-up email. Which one is on the order?

  • Defaults nobody filled in

No wall pattern, no mil, no floor pattern. The portal won't route it to CAD, and it sits until someone calls the dealer back.

Why it's still manual

Where pool design software still needs measured input

Liner manufacturers have invested in portals, apps and CAD. The measure sheet still arrives on paper, and someone still types it.

  • Your CAD and quoting software

    Waits for someone to type

AutoCAD, SolidWorks and pattern software plot a liner beautifully, once someone has typed every point in. They don't read an image of a measure sheet.

  • Generic AI and OCR models

    Confidently wrong

Generic OCR and chat models read the digits and drop the meaning: 8'6" becomes 86, a circled "?" disappears, and a missing depth gets filled with something plausible. On a liner, plausible is a remake.

  • Image-to-CAD converters

    Traces lines, not intent

Image-to-CAD converters trace the freehand outline on the sheet. The sketch is not to scale; the A-B numbers are the drawing, and converters ignore them.

  • Measuring apps and configurators

    Only if everyone uses them

Dealer measuring apps work for dealers who use them. Most of your volume still comes in from dealers who send the paper form as an image (faxed, texted, scanned), and you can't make them switch in April.

How the agent does it

From pool measure sheets to CAD drawings

The agent reads the A-B measurements, cross-checks the points and prepares the liner drawing in your existing CAD workflow. Your drafter confirms unclear radii, steps and depths before the order moves forward.

  1. Reads the sheet

Every point, depth, step and note, with a confidence score on each value.

  2. Checks the geometry

Triangulates the points and flags any that don't close, before anything is drawn.

  3. Fills the order

In your portal, with patterns and mil from the dealer's email or your defaults.

  4. Drafts the liner

Plots and patterns it in your CAD, the way your drafter would.

  5. You approve

Confirm the one flagged value; the order routes to cutting.

Human review

You approve the drawing, not the typing

Your workflow

Start pool design with measured geometry

A swimming pool design starts with a shape, but the liner drawing needs measured geometry. The A-B distances, diagonals, depths and step notes supply the dimensions your drafter needs to construct it in CAD.

LaunchAI works from those measurements and trusted order notes. An unclear radius stays flagged, and a missing measurement becomes a question for the dealer before the liner drawing is released.

Your workflow

Prepare measured drawings for your pool estimating software

An estimator needs a defined scope before a price is useful. For the liner workflow shown here, that means confirmed pool geometry, depths, steps, material selections and the order details your manufacturer requires.

LaunchAI prepares the drawing and order information for review. Your existing estimating system and approved price rules determine the price. Excavation, equipment, decking and full pool-construction budgets need their own quantities, rates and review.

Your workflow

Use measured drawings alongside 3D swimming pool design software

3D swimming pool design software helps designers present the pool and its surroundings. A liner manufacturer also needs verified dimensions, depth changes, radii and step details before a liner can be drafted for production.

Keep the presentation and the measured drawing tied to the same approved revision. LaunchAI handles the measure-sheet-to-CAD work illustrated here; your designer chooses the presentation tool and your drafter approves the manufacturing geometry.

FAQ

Pool sketch-to-CAD: common questions

Can it read an image of a hand-filled A-B measure sheet?

Yes. It reads the numbered points, A and B distances, diagonals, depths and step notes, and scores how sure it is of each value. Smudged digits and ambiguous radii go to your drafter, not into the liner.

What happens when the points don't close?

The agent triangulates every point before drafting. If a point disagrees with its neighbours beyond your tolerance, it stops and asks the dealer to re-check that point instead of drafting a liner that won't fit.

Our portal, NetSuite and AutoCAD don't talk to each other. Do we need an integration?

No. LaunchAI agents work through the screen, with your logins, on your machines. If your order desk can do it at a desk, the agent can do it at a desk.

Will it fill in pattern and mil when the dealer forgets?

Only from a source you trust: the dealer's email, their last order, or the defaults you set per dealer. Each value on the order shows where it came from, so nothing is invented.

Does it handle safety covers too?

Yes. Safety-cover forms use the same A-B method plus strap and anchor notes. See safety and spa covers.

What does our drafter do now?

Review instead of retype. In peak season that is the difference between a two-week backlog and same-day order confirmations.

Where does the reviewed drawing fit into pool building software?

For the liner order shown here, the drawing and confirmed order details become inputs to your existing manufacturing and builder handoff. Site planning, permits, engineering, construction scheduling and subcontractor coordination remain separate steps in the tools and approval process your team uses.

Does this workflow cover pool service estimating software?

The example here covers measured liner drawings and manufacturing orders. Recurring cleaning visits, chemical service, route planning and service billing require a service-management workflow. If your work includes liner replacement, bring a sample measure sheet and order so we can assess that specific drafting step.

Can a 3D pool rendering supply missing liner dimensions?

A rendering can show design intent. The liner draft still needs confirmed dimensions, A-B distances, depths and step details from trusted source documents. If a measurement is missing or conflicts with the design, your team must resolve it before the drawing is released.

Does LaunchAI replace pool builder project-management software?

The workflow shown here prepares a measured liner drawing and order for review. Your existing builder software continues to manage the rest of the project, including scheduling, purchasing and job tracking. We would confirm the specific handoff from the approved drawing into your current process using a sample order.

What should we check when choosing pool design software?

Start with the job you need to complete: a 3D customer presentation, a measured liner drawing, a construction estimate or a service schedule. Check the required outputs, measurement workflow, review process and compatibility with your existing tools. This page demonstrates the measured liner drawing and order workflow; validate it with a sample job before adopting it.
